A complicated Agave Spirit created by distiller Manuel Benet and mezcalero Eric Hernandez for Destilería Sacrificio NOM-O158X in Tlacolula, Oaxaca, Mexico. It's made from Espadin that matured for a minimum of 10 years; it was roasted using mesquite and ocote pine; then naturally fermented and double-distilled. The initial distillation occurs in steel, while the second takes place in copper. It's then aged for 3 months in un-toasted brandy barrels before being bottled at 40% ABV. It begins aromatically with notes of exotic flowers, smoke, vegetals, and citrus; its unique middle adds notes of agave, lemon, cinnamon, and campfire; concluding with a complex, medium-length finish featuring notes of tropical flowers after a thunderstorm, bitter chocolate, honey, spring water, oak, and pepper. About this bottle
Produced in Tlacolula, Oaxaca, this "reposado" mezcal is rested for three months in Mexican white oak casks that previously held brandy. The production starts with 8- to 10-year-old espadín agave. After a two-day roast in mesquite and ocote pine wood-fire ovens, the agave hearts are crushed using traditional methods to extract the juice. The juice is then distilled twice, first in a steel still and subsequently in a copper still. This mezcal is bottled at 40% ABV.

This spirit receives 3.75 stars from me. I like my mezcal cold, but be mindful of too much ice, as it can mask the tastes. The aroma is greeted with a mellow yet profound earthy agave smell. Every taste offers a subtle smokiness countered by a sweet flowery mix that vanishes too quickly to reach 4 stars. The end is peaceful with the smoke gradually fading. Served cold, it’s a good companion for warm weather.
Advent calendar day 16. Sampled without anything added. The aroma is intensely smoky, just as I prefer mezcal, with a touch of sweetness. I detect fruit, zest, and bubblegum on the nose. The taste is smooth and smoky. I'll certainly revisit this bottle.
I'm really enjoying the smoky character of this spirit. It's one of my favorites. If you're looking for a full-bodied mezcal, this is the one, my companion!
Subtle smoke, sweet agave, fruity, citrus, honey, feels smooth and refined on the palate with a brief finish.
Floral and faintly smoky. Effortless to sip. Less potent than other mezcal I have experienced, but pleasant nonetheless.
