The aroma of this spirit is more akin to a reposado tequila than most mezcals. Notes of vanilla, caramel, orange, earth, agave, and just a whisper of smoke. On the palate, it's more mezcal, with considerably more smoke, earth, caramel, and some wood.

About this bottle
Espíritu Lauro mezcals are produced from agave that is crushed and allowed to ferment naturally without the addition of yeast. The spirit is made from a combination of Espadín and Karwinskii of San Martín agave, harvested after maturing for 6 to 8 years. This reposado expression is aged for 3 to 4 months in previously used whiskey barrels that are re-charred and scraped prior to maturation.

Nice smoke, good agave, and a bit of oak. A touch of vanilla and cinnamon are detected. A solid, well-executed tequila that's enjoyable.
