About this bottle

This mezcal originates from Oaxaca, in southern Mexico, and is crafted from wild-grown Dobadán agave. Alberto Ortiz, a master mezcalero, double-distills the spirit in copper pot stills. The agave piñas used average 8 to 12 years old at the time of harvest.

Sharon Masterson 4.5

Very good. It has a strong alcohol smell along with some white pepper notes that are much more prominent on the palate. An almost aggressive alcohol taste also contributes to the wildness of the flavor. Not dusty, but vegetal in its flavors. Similar to eating nopal or green bell pepper or ancho chile. Very good, but I only got the last (half) pour at the bar where I'm taking notes, so I'll need to order it again.

Dorothea Noe 4.5

A floral, almost perfume-like nose with a touch of smoke. The floral notes are equally prominent on the palate, mingled with herbal flavors and alcohol burn. I wasn't initially fond of it, but I'm growing to appreciate it more with each sip.

Willie Livingston 4.0

My initial experience with Dobel, and it's quite enjoyable! Very similar in character to a Jabali. Good spice and a decent amount of smoke.

Jana Kline 4.5

Smoky, with notes of pepper and sage. It's rather smooth yet still packs a punch.
