This mezcal is exceptionally smooth, offering the characteristic earthy warmth of a tobala, yet it finishes with a delightful sweetness and smoothness. It's very well-balanced, rich, and slick. Definitely a keeper.

About this bottle
Sourced from stony terrain in Oaxaca, tobalá is among the most prized wild agave varieties. Mala Idea, meaning "bad idea" in reference to the challenging decision to cultivate this species for mezcal, uses 100% tobalá maguey. The agave is harvested at 12-14 years old, subjected to 72 hours of roasting in an earthen oven, crushed by tahona, and fermented for 5 days with local yeast in open pine vats. Following a double distillation in copper pot-stills, the spirit is bottled directly.
