Mezcal El Silencio Joven

I sampled these while waiting for a five-hour layover from EWR to Cabo in the Aeromexico premier lounge at Mexico City. Kept the children occupied with television and snacks while I enjoyed several complimentary tequilas and mezcals. The nose is reminiscent of fresh laundry from the dryer. The taste follows with an even cleaner, minty palate... simple and one-dimensional, which is sometimes acceptable. I wouldn't reject a free sample, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Smoky throughout, which was a pleasant surprise. It smelled like a barbecue grill after cooking ribs. Smooth for a blanco. I would buy this for grilling occasions and it would work well in a mezcal Bloody Mary or for taco night.

The initial sip is very smooth and earthy, leading to a banana (leaf) flavor in the middle. The finish is very gentle and lasts briefly. A nice sipping mezcal through and through.
