About this bottle

The experimental micro-distillery in Midleton, Co. Cork, is called Method and Madness. For the Rye & Malt expression, distiller Katherine Condon and her team employed a triple distillation process with a mash bill of 60% rye and 40% malted barley. Maturation occurred in ex-bourbon American oak barrels. This Method and Madness bottling is exclusively for the U.S. market, with only 5,000 bottles produced. It is bottled at 46% ABV cask strength and is not chill-filtered. Although other whiskeys have been released under the Method and Madness brand, this is the first whiskey actually distilled at this location. It became available in February 2023 in select U.S. markets and online retailers, with a suggested retail price of $80.

I've consistently admired Method & Madness. They typically craft distinctive and inventive expressions while ensuring quality. Their French Chestnut Finish ranks among my all-time favorite whiskies. Sadly, their recent releases feel phoned in. There's a minimal rye presence (and malt), overwhelmed by a strong note of young, metallic ethanol that spoils the experience. A €100 price point for this is outrageous. This issue, shared with their other recent offerings, has permanently damaged their reputation in my view.
