Martell Blue Swift

I believe each individual has unique taste buds. I am no expert, just for leisure drinking after an exhausting day at work, or celebrating with family members or friends. At first I was hesitant to try Martell Blue Swift but based on the board's individual reviews, one has to taste it to familiarize your tasting buds. Cognacs are for sipping and not for straight up shots. I have learned from an article that to fully enjoy cognac, drink it by sipping and exhaling your breath slowly out of your mouth discreetly. To enjoy its full essence, taste, and calming effects. This is a good starting point for drinking cognac which gives a favorable response to your taste buds. I am adding Martell Blue Swift to my collection. The 50 ml bottles are available in the market to try it out if you are not fully ready to invest in a full bottle, which costs $37-$40 depending on location. For me, you won't regret it, and your next test upgrade would be Hennessy Privilege. Enjoy and drink in moderation.

I have a particular fondness for bourbon, and cognac is also high on my list. Given that bourbons are now frequently finished in alternative barrels, which disqualifies them as bourbon, I wondered about the possibility of cognac finished in Kentucky bourbon barrels. As a strict bourbon traditionalist, I haven't yet encountered a "finished" bourbon that I truly appreciate. Regarding cognac, I've sampled many, with Remy and Courvoisier being my benchmarks. Martell Blue Swift competes well with them in my opinion. The most appealing aspect of cognac is its aroma, and this one delivers with rich oak and fruit notes. I can't discern if it's French or Kentucky oak, but it works well. The mouthfeel is perhaps denser and oilier, which I enjoy. It provides everything I seek in a cognac, but I can't definitively say it surpasses Remy, and if cost is a factor, Remy is the better choice.

After resting in a snifter for 30 minutes: Nose: Raisin is the primary scent, followed by lemon drops, honey, a hint of smoke, vanilla, apricots, apple, pear, medium caramel, black tea, and baking spice. Taste: Starts with a strong raisin flavor and balanced sweetness, then moves to baking spices, orange zest, vanilla, and brown sugar. It finishes with a moderately long profile of spice, medium caramel, black tea, ginger, and candied fruit.

Deep amber color, almost brown with reddish highlights. Oily. Nose: 20 Sweet aroma. Vanilla, caramel. Wine-like fruitiness. Palate: 21 Sweetness. Vanilla, caramel. Wine fruits. Quite serious. Even a bit of leather. A pinch of honey. Finish: 20 Slightly sharp at first. Caramel. Burnt sugar. Toasted notes. Toasted oak barrel. A rather long finish. Overall: 82

This is a delayed note. I tried it last Christmas and still have the bottle. It remains predominantly a cognac with some characteristics of whisky. I detect bourbon notes and some mint (?). The bourbon cask certainly amplified the aroma. It's rich, somewhat creamy, smooth, and well-rounded on the palate. The finish is sweet.

Blue Swift presents a deep chestnut color, a slightly watery consistency, and even alcohol legs. The scent features wax, pepper, nougat, lemon, and toasted oak. The taste echoes these elements, with menthol notes becoming prominent. The mouthfeel is light to medium, and the finish is of moderate length. - RJT
