This is one of my preferred Japanese whiskies and is by far the best value for money at under ¥3000 (around $28) here in Japan. It honestly competes with my Macallan Rare Cask which is like 10x more expensive. It's more complex and balanced than the Macallan but has a lighter and less rich mouth feel and shorter finish. Flavor notes provided by the distiller are spot on for the most part.
3.75. Pleasant caramel color. Brown sugar on the nose. The depth of flavor was appreciated; the wine cask was definitely noticeable, imparting a somewhat tannic quality. Medium lingering effect and a nice alcoholic warmth, finishing with my mouth feeling very dry, and leaving a taste akin to licking hot sauna wood.
I was expecting a more pronounced whisky flavor. It's good, though. This is an all-day whisky, meaning I can drink it continuously without feeling overwhelmed.
Red wine notes, caramel, slightly dry. Acceptable.
