Maestro Dobel Añejo Tequila

A rich Agave Spirit from NOM 1122, aged for 18 months in a charred American white oak barrel, then blended with a European Oak reserve of varying vintages just before bottling. It has an herbaceous beginning with a hint of vanilla ice cream topped with toffee sauce; while the rich opening adds notes of citrus peel, leading to a long & complex conclusion. May 2017.

I can't describe it any other way; this is the best tequila I've had to date. It's complex and interesting, and works well in an Oaxaca old fashioned with a joven mezcal. If you want to use it in another cocktail, mix it with Patron or Centenario to tone it down. I feel like you can do a lot with this tequila, which isn't overly bold, and a quality mezcal.

Bottle no. 34400, from May 2016, which I assume indicates bottling date. I think I bought this in Guadalajara in 2018. Inviting vanilla and subtle spices on the nose, slick entry on the palate with more subtle vanilla, warming medium length finish with a puff of smoke.

The aroma isn't very complex for an añejo. The overall taste is pleasant but not intricate either. You can immediately detect nuttiness and vanilla. It lingers on the palate for an impressively long time.

Rich vanilla flavor while maintaining a solid core essence of agave tequila. It's a true añejo with oak and developing rich flavors. Ideal for drinking on the rocks or neat, at a great price.

Smoky and substantial. The conclusion is smooth. Less sweet. Nearly salty but not actually salty. Possibly bourbon-like from the oak. The deep hue is unusual.
