A curious mix of maple and dark rum. The taste is strong, yet it glides down easily without a lingering bite.

About this bottle
This rum, which is finished in maple casks, comes from Vermont's Mad River Valley, the namesake of the distillery. It is initially produced using the same method as their First Run Rum, from sourced demerara sugar that is fair-trade certified. After maturing in a mix of toasted and charred barrels, it undergoes a finishing period in barrels previously holding Vermont maple syrup.

The maple syrup cask strongly influences the aroma. It carries through to the taste with caramelized sugar and tropical fruit.
An adequate rum, but nothing stands out except the subtle maple character derived from the cask.
This is possibly the best rum I've had. It has a wonderfully uncomplicated maple flavor and a pleasant toasty end.
