Continuing the Koloa Tasting with distiller Bob Gunter (Tasted 7th). According to the Distiller: Their standard white rum enhanced with coconut extract from a pharmaceutical supplier. Using fresh coconut proved too inconsistent due to fruit variability. 3.23.22 Served Neat in a Flute. Bottle Opened: Same Day. Previous drink: Coffee Rum. Aroma: Coconut, similar to suntan lotion. Flavor: Coconut, dairy butter. The suntan lotion scent is a bit off-putting, but the taste is enjoyable. It's neither great nor bad on its own. Curious to mix it and see if the coconut flavor remains. This is the only coconut rum I've sampled, so there might be superior options, but this one is acceptable in my opinion.

Millard Bonner 4.3

Okay, I confess this one exceeded my expectations. Aroma is subtle coconut, not overpowering, almost like a delicate perfume but without any cheap scent associations. Flavor is really good! Similar to the aroma, the taste is gentle coconut. I do detect that sugary water profile. It's nice that it doesn't have a strong alcohol burn, which makes this an easy-to-sip dessert drink, and the kind you wonder, "is there really alcohol in this?" when using it as a mixer. Yeah... solid stuff. Ratings are based on neat sipping.

Harlan Gaspar 3.5

This drinks more like a liqueur, but it offers a pleasant, rich, sweet flavor of toasted coconut. Perfect for cocktails or enjoying as a liquid dessert. Very smooth.

Renae Lamb 4.3

Incredible! Strong coconut flavor without sacrificing the alcohol content. Great in sweet tropical cocktails.

Kaden Temple 3.3

If you enjoy coconut and rum, this is the one. It's even good on its own.

Weldon Abel 4.0
