From a distillery partnership. Single malt, unfiltered and uncolored, 43% ABV. Aged 5 years in ex-bourbon casks, then finished in 20% European Oak and 80% Balsam wood. After finishing, it was married in flat casks and underwent forced oxidation for 3 months, once weekly. Smell: Malty sweetness (reminds of Barleywine), woody, with a spice reminiscent of cloves. Some dried fruits, leaning towards dates, raisins, and dehydrated citrus like pineapple or apples. Vanilla is present, and combined with the dried fruit aromas, it strongly evokes rum raisin ice cream. A subtle nutty note lies beneath, adding buttery nuances to the nose, along with honey and a touch of alcohol warmth. Taste: Matches the nose well, sweet, with a robust woody character of old wood, very clovy spice (more so than on the nose), good bitterness, dehydrated citrus fruitiness, and alcohol warmth. It delivers a lot, feels like a dessert. Finish: Medium, with a woody, spicy, and sweet aftertaste. After about 20 seconds, clove notes emerge, completing the experience and leaving a slight feeling of freshness in the mouth. Overall Impressions: An exotic, flavorful whisky with good spicy notes, unlike standard whiskies. It offers a lot and is pleasant, despite the slightly prominent alcohol. I recommend it neat or on ice, as it was designed for sipping. It will likely pair well with cigars and desserts due to its sweet and fruity notes.
