Context: enjoyed after a small measure of Maker’s Cask Strength, and (full transparency) accompanied by a miniature Romeo y Julieta cigar… Serving suggestion: a small amount, neat, in a glencairn glass. It appears dark mahogany in the glass. Nose: A fairly standard rum aroma, with some woody molasses and a touch of sweetness at the edges, perhaps even a hint of maple syrup. Palate: Quite rich (keeping in mind the context), with some dried fruit and rich sweet confectionary, all unified by a deep syrupy molasses, and again, a hint of maple. Surprisingly full-bodied and smooth, enjoyable if not particularly complex. Finish: Brief and sweet, with only a slight influence of the wood and not much earthiness or depth to speak of. Pleasant on the palate, but it certainly didn't linger on the finish. This was somewhat surprising given the proof and reputation, possibly evoking popular and more expensive Guatemalan spirits marketed for sipping. It could also serve well as a mixer when a mature rum is desired. Overall, it offers good value and is a respectable example of aged rum, though a rum aficionado might find it lacking. A rating of 3.5 for the rich, smooth palate and overall value. I'll keep this on hand for mixing and occasional sipping.

Maple and vanilla are prominent on the nose. The first taste is acetone. The second and third sips reveal the maple, molasses, and vanilla, but the sweetness doesn't appear until after four or five tastes. Raisin and spice develop over time, but the flavor doesn't really warrant drinking it neat. It might be suitable for mixing, especially in tiki drinks.
This spirit boasts a profound amber hue. Its scent is dominated by vanilla. The taste leads with tobacco and vanilla, complemented by a whisper of spearmint. Subtle notes of molasses and anise emerge. It possesses a slight sweetness.
