Considering the price paid, this offers excellent value. It's more than satisfactory when drunk neat and pairs very well with Coke. Given its reasonable cost, I have no hesitation in using it for mixing. While it's not as refined as XV (or the fantastic Centuria!), it doesn't try to be. Definitely a good value and recommended.

About this bottle
Panama's Varela Hermanos, which manages its entire production from sugarcane cultivation and harvesting to distillation and aging, produces Ron Abuelo. The 7 Años rum is a composition of pressed cane juice gathered during the growing season and cane juice combined with molasses from the off-season. Both components are aged in previously used bourbon barrels before their blend. This process results in a light amber/gold hue.

Interesting aromas giving off hints of honey, hazelnuts, vanilla, and wood, with some spices under a not overwhelming sugar. On the palate, a mix of sweet and woody flavors, spices, caramel, light vanilla at the end of the sip. Good, but lacks refinement.
Nose: herbal and sweet, well-balanced, with some rubbery notes, mint, anise, and vanilla. Palate: matches the nose precisely. Balanced, with vanilla sweetness and herbal notes. Finish: oak, sugar, and some pepper. Herbal. I truly appreciate this profile.
This is a very good rum, leaning towards the sweeter side with molasses, a hint of nuts, and vanilla, offering classic flavors without surprises. An excellent choice for sipping. I'm eager to try the 12-year-old version.
Received this as a memento from someone who visited Costa Rica. A pleasant, sweet drink with some surprising savory elements! Surround yourself with good friends, everyone 👏
It's a little sweet but sips quite smoothly and possesses some pleasing depth. There's almost no burn. I would frequently purchase this in the mid-$20s as a versatile aged rum.
