Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask

This new expression from Kavalan, the Taiwanese Masters of Whisky, is quite intriguing, though the alcohol content is a bit low. Named "Triple Sherry," as its name implies, it was aged in Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, and Moscatel casks. It has a beautiful red hue and is bottled at 40% ABV. The aroma is precisely what one would anticipate, a sherry explosion with abundant dried oranges, red apples, lemongrass, watermelon, and hazelnuts, presenting a very fruity profile. The palate is exceptionally rich and wine-like, featuring PX sherry and blackberries. The aftertaste is dominated by notes of limoncello and tangerine, offering a very acidic and pleasantly sour character. Overall, this makes for a delightful everyday drink. Its affordability makes it difficult to find a comparable alternative for the price. It's incredibly enjoyable, and I wholeheartedly endorse this single malt, rating it 84 out of 100.

Likely the best everyday Kavalan I've sampled so far. This is what I anticipated from a Triple Sherry expression. The nose is dominated by sherry with a variety of notes – red apples, ripe pears, oranges, and pleasant oats. The palate is very rich, primarily featuring berries and red apples. During the finish, the oranges evolve into tangerines.

From Poland. Aroma: strongly barrel-influenced and heavily sherry-forward, with sweetness, vanilla, grapes. After a moment, a strong smokiness emerges, almost peat-like. Alcohol is exceptionally well-hidden. Rated 4.0. Taste: sweet, but very smoky, a hint of light smoke, alcohol is hidden. Basic taste, not much sherry. Rated 3.9 overall.

Oloroso. Pedro Ximénez. Moscatel. A more reddish appearance. On the nose, creamy and subtle. Complex and smooth. Overripe apple. Prune. Dried fruits. Slight tingle on the tip of the tongue, silky, apple liqueur. Fine balance. Nice finish, smooth and woody.

Very pleasantly surprised by this Kavalan. I'd favor it over the Glendronach 12YO. Exceptionally smooth, sweet, and oily. Flavors of candied fruits, caramel, and honey are present. I would describe it as a multi-layered and perfectly balanced whiskey.

Nose: Initially, apple and pear notes, but the fruity aromas faded quite quickly. As it developed, more baked goods aromas emerged, like brown sugar and raisin bread. Palate: Orange peel.
