About this bottle

Re:Find offers a range of spirits made by repurposing existing products, such as using discarded free-run juice to create grape spirits for their gin and vodkas. For their rye whiskey, the base ingredients are sourced from SLO Brew in San Luis Obispo, while the fermentation, distillation, aging, and bottling all occur at Re:Find Distillery in Paso Robles. This rye is aged in 5-gallon barrels for an unspecified duration and bottled at 90 proof in 375ml containers. This review pertains to the second batch.

Alfredo Norman 3.5

This Paso Robles rye whiskey was quite a surprise. I don't usually enjoy rye, but this is a really enjoyable dram. I visited the distillery while on a work trip in California in September 2018, which was also part holiday. This bottle remained unopened in my collection until the current lockdown, when a friend and I decided to open it. Initially, this whiskey is smooth. It has a good alcoholic presence, likely due to its short aging period of 12-36 months, yet it doesn't feel harsh. It's sufficiently oily to provide a pleasingly thick mouthfeel. The whisky is sweet, spicy, and fruity, with a chili kick, plenty of vanilla, and a lovely cognac/Armagnac finish. Overall, it's likely one of my favorite rye whiskies. Excellent!

Bailee Patrick 5.0

This was a single cask specifically selected and bottled for the retailer where I purchased it. Exceptionally smooth, subtly sweet, and like caramel heaven. It's among the finest whiskies I've ever experienced.

River Flannery 5.0

From 2017, Batch No. 6, exclusively bottled for Wades Wines. The finest rye I have ever had.

Carl Tavarez 4.0

Great taste! The grape spirit pairs excellently with the rye's spice.

Kaylynn Lovell 4.3

Smoother than expected. We'll definitely be buying more. My companions also found it very enjoyable.

Colin Felton 4.3

The aroma has vanilla and earthiness with cinnamon on the palate.
