Benriach The Sixteen

Aroma: Heavy Malt, Creamy Sweetness, Hazelnut, Nutmeg, Cookie Dough, Vanilla, Honey. Taste: Apple, Pear, Marzipan, HEAVY Malt Sweetness, Generic Nutty Notes, Cinnamon, Mild Oak, Oak Tannins, Grassy Finish. I'm unsure if the term "Malt bomb" has been established yet, but The Sixteen from Benriach certainly qualifies. There is a wonderfully potent, creamy, sweet, malt sugar on the aroma and the taste, something I've only encountered in this bottle. It is truly distinctive in that regard. The sherry influence is barely perceptible in this whisky because the Bourbon cask and Virgin Oak cask dominate the palate, quite the opposite of the Original Twelve. A really great bottle of whisky considering the price I paid. I would strongly suggest acquiring one if you have the opportunity.

The aroma is bright and cheerful, with sherry and malt notes accompanied by a hint of smoke and salinity. The initial taste is delightful, with the sherry notes elevating the spirit. Virgin oak tempers this somewhat with a dry, tannic quality, though this is only apparent in the finish. The mid-palate reveals notes of honey butter, roasted pecan, and sweet pastries. A very delicate yet confident whisky with considerable character.

Nose: Sweet stone fruit, honey, vanilla, with mild nutty undertones. Palate: Velvety and lush, featuring spiced apple, apricot, malt's sweetness, and subtle oak. Finish: Cozy and warm, with honey, nuts, and a touch of spice that persists.

Poured directly from the bottle. Semi-sweet and fruity with notes of leather and a hint of baking spice. Very pleasing!
