I was highly anticipating this release ever since Green River announced it. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of wheated bourbons, but Weller FP is among my favorites, and I was hoping this would compete at a much lower cost. Nose: Rich caramel, oak, and vanilla with almost no burn. It's very subtle and mellow, which I appreciate; it doesn't hit you as hard as other full proof options might (including Weller FP). Taste: I'm genuinely surprised by this. Buttery oak and vanilla are immediate, with no hint of burn or harshness. This is followed by the main 'flavoring,' so to speak. Strong notes of smooth caramel corn linger for 10-15 seconds before leading to a satisfying finish. No burn, very little tannin throughout. If I had to guess blind, I'd place it closer to the 95-105 proof range, and that's a good thing. This offers a nice change from full proof 'flavor bombs' like Stagg Jr (which clearly have a higher proof contributing). Final thoughts: I expected something similar to Weller FP but was pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of this pour. For $50, this is excellent value, and its proof is low enough that it might not be as intimidating as other full proof products. Very buttery and smooth with notes of caramel, vanilla, and mild oakiness. I'd definitely suggest it if you enjoy FP products, and even if you don't, there are worse ways to spend $50, so it's worth a try in my opinion.

Green River Full Proof is an age-stated blend of five-to-seven-year barrels (mashbill 70% Corn, 21% Rye, 9% Malted Barley?) from specific warehouses at Green River’s distillery in Owensboro, KY. This bottle, purchased in March 2025, is 118.1 proof and cost $50. Tasted neat. It has a chestnut color and leaves rather thin legs in the glass. The classic aromas of vanilla, caramel, and oak form the base of this bourbon's scent profile. The palate also presents classic flavors. Burnt sugar caramel, oak char, cherry, and a quite reasonable ethanol bloom. Dark dried fruit, vanilla oak, and spicy rye notes are present. The mouthfeel is thin but becomes more oily as you approach the finish—spicy and with barrel char, then mint and a touch of sourness. Adding ice mellows the ethanol and enhances the flavor. This bottle offers classic bourbon characteristics. It's not overly complex, but it's a solid, full proof bourbon aged around 7 years and priced at $50. That's an excellent value for bourbon of this quality, and it earns an extra quarter star in my rating. I will revisit this as I continue to enjoy the bottle.

60.15% alcohol; 117.3 proof Opened 11 months ago Smell: Sweet caramel, artificial vanilla, mild cinnamon, white pepper, cherry candy, light wood, and moderate ethanol. Taste: Caramel and vanilla flavoring, cherry lozenges, sharp wood, and mild baking spices. The finish is medium, with hot and spicy wood, white pepper, artificial caramel, artificial vanilla, Red Hots, and moderate ethanol. This is the most overhyped release I've had in the past year. People saying it's superior to Rare Breed or Elijah Craig is, in my opinion, absurd. I got this not long after it came out and have sampled many 5-6 year old single barrel selections from various stores, and they all seem bright and young. Honestly, I never expected to say this, but I prefer the 95 proof bourbon. Perhaps in a few years, when this is closer to 8 years old, it might genuinely contend with the barrel proof offerings from major distilleries, but it's not there yet.

Aroma: Rye notes are really quite dominant here (mint, freshly baked rye bread). There’s a slight citrus note here. Some anise, black licorice notes from time to time. Alcohol is well concealed. Taste: Alcohol dominates from start to finish. In fact that is all I taste on the finish. Extremely strong. Rye notes are present, with a slight hint of mint and bubblegum. I'm getting some vanilla and oak but it's not that pronounced. Quite dull and lacking depth. Overall: this drinks exceptionally hot. There’s not enough body or flavor to offset the proof. Jack Daniels BP is by far a better drink even at much higher proofs because the viscosity and the flavor profile is off the charts. This Green River doesn’t have that. I had high hopes after seeing several YouTubers speak glowingly about it, but I’m not all that impressed to be completely honest.

GREEN RIVER FULL PROOF GLASS: Glencairn NOSE: Lots of spice. Dry Corn and Oak with Orange Oil, Brown Sugar, Hay and Black Pepper. NEAT: The spiciness carries over. I’m getting Wild Turkey vibes here. Nutmeg, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Bitter Orange Peel, and Oak Spice. Big KYHug with Cinnamon and Spicy Oak Tannins on the finish. You also get some Pepper (not black, but hot pepper) Burn on the lingering aftertaste. A SPLASH: A little water and the bitterness becomes a little too prominent. Brave the spice and drink this neat. VERDICT: Went into this one completely blind, and was a bit surprised by how much I liked it. Under $50 for a Barrel Proof alleged to be 7’ish years old from a smaller distillery is a welcome development. Not something I’ll drink often, but a good bottle to have on hand.
