GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1989

Having evaluated over 600 drams in the past five years, I can confidently say this is the finest. The aroma is rich with dark fruit and cinnamon, coffee and toffee, and the scent of chestnuts roasting by a fire, like a welcoming, cozy log cabin in winter. On the palate, it's dense and luxuriant with fig and honey, spiced raisin cake, and cherry and plum with an almost savory character. Deep oak notes are complemented by hints of leather and tobacco. Surprisingly, a delicious whisper of herbal, almost grassy malt persists through the years, manifesting as crusty bread made with molasses. Black pepper, nutmeg, and ginger contribute a slight bitterness, along with some char that I wish were more pronounced. Nevertheless, it is remarkably complex, possessing a perfect mouthfeel: viscous yet not overwhelming. I appreciate the full impact of the ABV. The finish features dusty cocoa, syrup, and berries, with a slight acidity that thankfully avoids descending into the balsamic vinegar territory common in many aged, heavily sherried Scotches. At no point does the proof feel excessive or the ethanol distracting; instead, it coats the palate, leading to a generously long finish that unequivocally marks this as a true Sherry bomb. Outstanding quality. 9.6/10

Possibly the most full-bodied sherry bomb I've encountered, surpassing many single casks and grand expressions. Aroma: Raisins, Espresso, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Figs, Cloves, Chili, Treacle, Dark Chocolate, Coal, Hazelnuts, Crystalized Ginger, Christmas Cakes, Pineapples, Molasses, Maple Syrup Flavor: Strawberries, Raspberries, Salted Caramel, Dates, Plums, Mocha, Mince Pies, Gingerbread, Orange Peels, Christmas Cakes, Luxardo Cherries Aftertaste: Brown Sugar, Dates, Root Beer, Cherry Cola, Milk Chocolate, Almonds, Nutmeg, Nutella, Black Tea, Molasses, Demarara Syrup, Sultanas, Dates, Raisins

I appreciate scotch that has been expertly finished in sherry casks. This whisky is now my standard for "expertly finished." So well-balanced, truly a magnificent dram!!
