The fifth vintage bottled in bond Tennessee whisky from George Dickel, overseen by Nicole Austin, director of George Dickel & luxury whisky, was produced using a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. This spirit was distilled in spring 2011, then chill charcoal-filtered and aged for 12 years in new, charred American oak barrels. It became available nationwide in May 2024, with a suggested retail price of $44.99.

A decent, but not exceptional, pour. It presents significantly more tart cherry and acrid wood notes compared to the 2008 13-year-old bib. That subtle aging imparts a substantial change. It has a pleasant warmth and a satisfying sweet finish that persists. After consuming about a third of the bottle, it has evolved to exhibit a somewhat fruitier and zestier character.
The dominant flavors are like Flintstones vitamins and minerals, but in a good way. It's complex with a touch of smoke and caramel. I'm pleased I found a bottle on the shelf at a VA ABC store. I'd buy it again but it's not something I need to stock up on.
Spicy and strong, much more balanced, from spring 2011. Dry spice, but not unbalanced. Close to rye, but more enjoyable.
