They have certainly crafted something distinctive. While I haven't sampled many liqueurs, I couldn't easily categorize this one. Yet, it's not strange or outlandish, but rather occupies a unique flavor space, sharing traits with various spirits. The aroma is rich with mellow spices like caraway, nutmeg, and cardamom, which are prominent botanicals. A subtle honey-like sweetness and a touch of vanilla are also detected. The flavor begins with sweetness, followed by a slight alcohol warmth, and then shifts to more herbal notes (perhaps a hint of mint). The deeper spices from the aroma reappear at the end, blending with the sweet vanilla in a fairly lengthy finish. It's quite pleasing. The marketing suggests it's like a "gin without juniper," which seems accurate; the spice botanicals are common in gin. However, these spices are deep and potent here, giving it a more substantial feel than typical gin and approaching the body of whiskey. The claim of minimal added sugar aligns with my experience; the sweetness acts as a background to the other flavors, akin to the fruitiness of Scotch or a heavily sweetened liqueur. It's impressive that they've created such a unique spirit, blending elements of liqueurs, gin, and whiskey. My main reservation is that its intermediate flavor profile isn't as compelling as those primary categories. It's complex enough to enjoy neat, but I don't often choose it, typically opting for gin or rhum agricole blanc when I desire something light, or a barrel-aged spirit for more weight. This certainly didn't blow me away with its deliciousness, but it's tasty and unusual enough that I'm glad I tried it. I won't be in a hurry to replace it once it's gone, as its ambiguous flavor profile doesn't leave a void I need to fill urgently. Still, I might revisit it eventually. It was a good deal at $20.
