Don Q Reserva 7 is a recent creation by master blender Jaiker Soto, developed in partnership with Maestra Ronera Silvia Santiago and sixth-generation rum maker Roberto Serrallés. Soto combined light and heavy rums, distilled in two distinct column still types. Both components have aged for at least seven years in American white oak barrels. This rum is bottled at 40% ABV and became available in August 2020.

It has a light mouthfeel with subtle vanilla and caramel notes mingling, molasses, baking spice, and various fruits like bananas. The finish is brief and features mild baking spice. A sweet, light rum that isn't overly syrupy. It's not exceptional but offers great value for the cost. I'd recommend it over Bacardi and Morgan any day.
Don Q Reserva 7 is not an improvement over Don Q Gold. It presents aromas of sweet fruit, rich tobacco, and oak. The initial taste is sweet, with oak and tropical fruits on the palate. The finish is short, with light sweet rum and bitter oak. It's not enjoyable straight or mixed.
Exceeded my expectations. I worried it might be overly sweet, but it's actually quite nice to sip. Also worked well in a daiquiri.
