About this bottle

Introduced in 1999, Chairman's Reserve Rum honors St. Lucia Distillers' former chairman, Laurie Barnard, who devised a blend of both pot and continuous still distillates. The rums are initially matured for nine months in new American oak. They are then aged separately in casks previously used for Jim Beam and Buffalo Trace bourbons, as well as Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey. Following this, they are combined and allowed to rest together in cask for an additional six months before bottling. While there is no official age statement, the youngest components are at least five years old. The product was previously named Chairman's Reserve Finest Blended Rum.

Rudy Norris 3.5

Nose: Flowery, sweet, with alcohol. No resin (which is good). Possibly some vanilla. Taste: Similar rose and sweet notes, green apple, and something I can't pinpoint. No harshness in the mouth, yet it's potent. Finish: Smooth and... flowery. More apples and sweetness. Update: The alcohol scent isn't as strong this time. It's flowery and definitely sweet. Even if you perceive the alcohol, it's not apparent in the taste. Clearly apple and some medicinal notes. I'd use this as a simple sipper. Good for a relaxed evening by the fire with friends.

Beckett Morrow 2.8

The aroma is pungent and saccharine. It's not a gentle rum. The flavor is sweet with a touch of sharpness. A faint bitterness emerges in the finish, eventually becoming vanilla. It's an acceptable drink, but not outstanding.

Clinton Armenta 4.0

An excellent rum with a top value for money. Very pronounced white fruit notes and a great texture. Nice sweetness in the mouth, it's enveloping and aromatic.

Merlin Snead 2.0

Undrinkable neat, like gasoline. Might work as a mixer. Other rums in this price category offer better flavor, for instance, R.L.Seale's 10 years.

Prince Mckinnon 4.0

Nose: Smells of wood and soil. Palate: Layered and intricate. Finish: Lingering warmth. Made with 80% from a column still and 20% from a pot still. It's aged in separate batches, then combined and aged further.

Lyric Reiter 3.3

Raisin on the nose and palate. Smoky, tobacco, and sweet. A decent sipper and good for mixing.
