Maudie Whalen 2.0

Nose: Moderate oak, caramel, black pepper, faint toasted marshmallow, and a touch of ethanol. Palate: Oak that seems diluted, butterscotch cream, cinnamon bun, and a mix of peppercorns. The finish is medium to long, featuring dry barrel char, damp grain, grass, cinnamon sticks, and a hint of ethanol. The latter part has an unwelcome woody, bitter agave impact. From a 50 mL sample bottle. The nose is acceptable, but the finish is quite poor. It completely ruins the tequila. It remains rather straightforward until the very end, then it transforms and overwhelms the back of your throat. Not enjoyable.

Carlo Vandyke 4.5

Consumed neat. The nose carries notes of agave, oak, a touch of vanilla, toffee, black pepper, and earth. The taste is sweet with agave, significant caramel, vanilla, flan, oak, black pepper, cinnamon, and a hint of anise. The finish is long, sweet, mellow, and eventually dry. Most flavors linger, but the vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and black pepper remain on the palate the longest. The mouthfeel is moderately light. A very enjoyable anejo. It's not overly sweet, has a nice oakiness, and a touch of spice. A good option for those who typically enjoy bourbon.
