Light caramel, rye, citrus, apple, cinnamon, vanilla, oak, and a subtle hint of agave as it opens. Palate: Slightly more fruity and sweet with agave notes, alongside red apple, hot cinnamon, herbal rye, and oak. Finish: Spicy yet mild with hot cinnamon and a touch of saccharine sweetness. Comparison to Bourbon: The bourbon exhibits more intense oak, caramel, and spice, with a stronger alcohol presence and a drier, more tannic oak finish. The agave is more pronounced in this, appearing fruitier and richer. Overall: Enjoyable for fans of bourbon and Buffalo Trace. Surprisingly similar to bourbon, with a more pronounced bourbon character than other aged tequilas. A casual drinker might mistake it for a very smooth and easy bourbon.

This particular release from FWGS (PA) showcases barrel aging that softened the blanco's harsher notes. It introduced vanilla, subtle fruit, gentle caramel, and mild smoky, damp wood. The aging also reduced its mineral character, saltiness, and alcohol burn. It resembles an añejo, a style I typically avoid for their bolder profiles. However, I'm pleased with this find as I appreciate it, even though it seems a bit subdued. I suggest savoring it neat to preserve its nuances; I wouldn't pair it with food, beer, or even a cigar.
