COA De Jima Reposado

I have to admit I don't know much about this COA de Jima tequila, having obtained a sample during a recent trip to the store. I think it's a 100% agave tequila, probably aged under 2 years in oak. It hails from the Los Altos de Jalisco region and is quite inexpensive for a reposado. Sipped neat from a Glencairn, with no additions. The color is nearly clear, showing only a touch of pale yellow from the aging process. On the nose, I detect a powerful cooked agave scent mingled with vanilla, and a vegetal earthiness or asparagus note. A whisper of barrel char lies beneath, accompanied by a strong alcohol burn. The palate is light and thin, with minimal sweetness, more cooked agave taste, and notes of black and white peppery spice along with vanilla dominating. A subtle hint of oak can be perceived in the background. The finish is swift, leaving behind an enduring earthiness, additional pepper, and a light vanilla that tastes somewhat sweet, almost like an artificial sweetener. In summary, this is drinkable, but not much beyond that. It lacks genuine complexity or depth of flavor. While the agave notes are present, it appears the aging was quite brief, as the barrel influence is virtually absent. Cheers!
