Château du Breuil Fine

Nose: Bright apple cider with underlying oak cask notes. There's also a fresh, grassy aroma and a hint of something more potent than cider, like a tiny splash of good young cognac added to the glass. Palate: A soft, creamy entry with semi-sweet flavors of apple, grassy herbs, raisins, and diluted honey. The slightest hint of warm cinnamon and white pepper emerges as it develops. The texture is soft but not thick. Finish: Medium to short. The apple flavor persists until the very end, and the aftertaste is bittersweet with a stronger sweet component. A pleasant and very easy-to-drink spirit with minimal alcohol warmth. This is the entry-level offering from the Château du Breuil line, but that doesn't mean it's cheap or underdeveloped. It's fresh, crisp, and perfectly acceptable, though the older and pricier versions are superior. Château du Breuil is a good producer but not top-tier. Excellent neat, on ice, with a little soda water, or in a hot toddy. I'd generally avoid using this calvados as a mixer because its subtle character is best appreciated on its own. It also shines as a cooking ingredient, pairing wonderfully with almonds and complementing chicken casserole or pork sauce. In terms of whiskey, I'd compare this to a solid mid-tier blended scotch, like Dewars 12 or Johnnie Walker Black. "Average": 78/100 (2.75 stars)

It's quite frustrating when you encounter a scent that is highly distinctive and you recognize it from the past, but can't quite place it. This is my first time tasting calvados in a long time, thanks to a friend. What I appreciate about this sample exchange program is the opportunity to try many unusual options. I typically wouldn't enjoy this, but I don't mind it. It drinks more like a low ABV liqueur than a spirit. I'm not planning on purchasing a bottle, but it's almost like a summer aperitif. I won't be assigning a rating as I prefer to drink a spirit multiple times to fully grasp it before doing so. Thanks to my friend!

Powerful (!), fruity flavor with a slight touch of cinnamon, and the apple is clearly present. Takes some getting used to initially, but then drinks more smoothly with each sip.

My initial experience with calvados. I found it pleasing. The aroma is very agreeable, the taste is delicate, and the finish is medium to long. I will certainly purchase another!
