Bulleit Single Malt

To begin, I don't typically comment on the color of whiskey because, in my opinion, it's largely irrelevant. However, I must say this color is exceptionally light, sort of a copper/straw shade. Nose: Vanilla, very green oak, toasted cereal grains, grass, pear, lime, and golden apple. There's absolutely no ethanol (a positive), but it's also very straightforward and subdued (a negative). Palate: Offers the vanilla and apple from the nose, alongside honey, cotton candy, almond, and toasted coconut. Very vibrant. There's some complexity here, but the flavors lack richness. Finish: Short, with distinct barley (almost beer-like), green tea, white pepper, sour apple, and young oak. There's an earthy note I can't quite identify (beetroot?). The mouthfeel is extremely light, airy, and soft. It's also quite dry, which suited me. While there's nothing objectionable here, there's also not much to get excited about; it's... 'pleasant'. Light and fruity, but also somewhat uninspired. Almost like an introductory American Single Malt, which is acceptable, but I prefer a more substantial product. At $60, I would absolutely not repurchase given the other options available at that price point (Rare Breed comes to mind).

The low rating is because charging over $50 for this is highway robbery. Otherwise, it wouldn't be so bad at a $30 price point, but there's nothing particularly impressive for a scotch or any single malt enthusiast. It has a deep, dark malt note, a small hint of corn sweetness, mild nuttiness, and some herbal, earthier notes towards the end. The color is light, slightly oily, but also thin. The finish is decidedly earthy with peppery notes. There are no peaty notes; it's more like earthy wood smoke. Another issue I encountered is the new American oak barrels, which I find somewhat bland compared to bourbon barrels or sherry cask finishes in other malts. It comes across as young and underdeveloped. If you're looking for Islay-level smoke or a fruity and nutty Highland, this is likely not for you. Meh:^(

I was really looking forward to trying this whiskey, and it met my expectations. The nose is sweet with notes of vanilla and oak. It presents a distinct aroma compared to their bourbons and ryes, but it's quite pleasant. The texture is smooth with oak, vanilla, and a subtle fruity note. The finish is long and smooth. It makes a fantastic Old Fashioned, holding up well in the cocktail. I'm very pleased with this whiskey and happy that the brand is broadening its selections; this is a great addition for variety. Even a friend who prefers scotch over bourbon enjoyed it, finding it less sweet than bourbon. Enjoy.

Visited the Bulleit Bourbon distillery and discovered they offer a single malt! This attractive black bottle holds the distillery's first single malt, bottled at 45% ABV and made entirely from malted barley. On the nose, it presents a Glenfiddich green apple note, along with pears and whipped cream. The palate offers notes of peaches, hay, and honey. The finish consists of peaches, hay, honey, and tobacco. Overall, I find this offering to be fruity and "cowboy-like" in a very appealing manner. A solid choice from Diageo's Bulleit distillery. My score for this excellent dram is 92 out of 100.

A nice aroma, with malt and some fruit. It's quite similar to a bourbon cask Speyside scotch in that regard. However, I also detect fresh oak notes reminiscent of bourbon. The taste is somewhat lacking in body. Nothing objectionable, but this is nothing like the smaller distillery's ASM's. It's sweet and malty with a slightly tart finish. I believe it needs more time aging in oak. As this is a new spirit from Bulleit, it will likely improve over time.

Intense flavor, but a good whiskey. Improves as you drink it. The nose is classic, malty, with that distinctive distillery funk. It tastes like an 'experienced' whiskey. The 100% malt mash hits you hard; this isn't for amateurs. It's smooth despite the heavy malt, but definitely not sweet, warm, or fruity. A fairly oily mouthfeel, but as the tags will indicate, it's oaky, harsh, and hot. Surprisingly enjoyable without ice, though.
