About this bottle

The Connacht Whiskey Co. distributes Ballyhoo Irish Whiskey, a grain whiskey sourced while their own spirits mature. Initially aged in ex-bourbon barrels, the mash bill consists of 93% corn and 7% malted barley. It then undergoes a finishing period in port casks. Availability in the US commenced in March 2018.

Quite possibly the worst Irish whiskey I have ever encountered. The aroma is overwhelmingly ethanol-based, with a touch of vanilla and shortbread cookie. The taste is pure ethanol, followed by a slight sweetness at the end. I am unsure if something has changed in the last couple of years, but my bottle tastes nothing like the other reviews suggest. Steer clear of this one.

Avent 2019 - 12/24. I was so eager to try this product, which I bought straight from the distillery in Ireland this summer. A medicinal scent subtly reminds us of the hospital, but the flavors of hazelnut and spice give some zest to this quite pleasant product!

Perhaps I received a flawed bottle, but this genuinely tastes and smells like plastic, with acetone and other off-putting aromas. I'm extremely disappointed, especially since I purchased it due to its origin in the same region of Ireland as my family.

Terrell Clinton 2.0

The most uninspired Irish I have tried. The color is very pale, and the flavor is nearly sweet, almost complex, but ultimately falls short. Many other Irish whiskeys in this price bracket are more worthwhile.

Sage Stewart 4.0

It's not bad! The aroma is a bit sharp, but it goes down easy with a sweet caramel flavor and notes of shortbread. Orange peel comes through in the aftertaste.

Ada Brewer 2.8

There's a strong vanilla taste, but the smell of rubbing alcohol makes you hesitant to pour a second glass. Overall, the taste is good, just the smell is surprisingly potent.
