I noticed a display of this rum while leaving the ABC store the other day. It had an attractive bottle and came with a complimentary Tiki glass. Since I'm easily swayed by pretty packaging and freebies, and I've been meaning to explore more rums, I decided to try it... Nose: Very promising notes of vanilla, buttercream frosting, banana, those distinctive yellow butterscotch candies, maple, and molasses. Palate: Doesn't meet the expectations set by the nose. Disappointingly thin. Flavors include vanilla, banana cream, and coffee with cream and sugar. There's minimal warmth and a slight bitterness on the finish. It's so thin it leaves no coating on the palate, just a sugary aftertaste. Conclusion: The nose was a home run. The palate was a weak dribble back to the pitcher. The best part of this offering is the free glass. I have a locally produced, unaged White Rum from Outer Banks Distilling that is significantly better than this one and costs a couple dollars less.

I picked this up during the summer and it's been a real pleasure. This is a very agreeable, not overly sweet rum from the Dominican Republic that presents with notes akin to spiced rum, featuring vanilla and a sweet aroma, followed by a fruity body. I do enjoy this rum. I believe I purchased it for closer to $20, and at that price, it's fantastic; however, at $25 or $30, it's not as impressive. Its flavor holds up well in mixed drinks and is decent on the rocks, though a bit sweet for my preference. There's a 5-year and a 12-year expression in this line that I'm keen to try, and I plan to seek out some autumnal cocktails featuring rum for them. My reason for not assigning a higher rating is that I currently only possess two rums in my collection, and while this one is quite good, I lack comparable options for evaluation. I will revisit this in a few months after sampling a few others. Enjoy.

Understated for an aged rum, but in a positive way.
