About this bottle

Vizcaya, part of Oliver & Oliver's portfolio which includes Cubaney and OpthimuS, originates from the Dominican Republic. Unconventionally for a rum of its style, it is produced from fresh cane juice instead of molasses, aligning it with agricole-style rums like Clement's six-year Grande Reserve. The number "21" prominently displayed on the Vizcaya label refers to "Cask No. 21" rather than an age statement. It is aged in ex-bourbon barrels and presented at 80 proof. The distinctive squat, oval bottle and gold stopper contribute to its elegant presentation.

This is solely my perspective. I've sampled high-end rums, and this one, in my opinion, competes. Firstly, the price point is reasonable at $38-48. The aroma is captivating!!!! Marshmallows, chocolate, dried figs, and graham crackers. The taste is sweet, but appropriately so. This rum on its own is heavenly!! Just a drop of water enhances it beautifully!!! I used to purchase this rum regularly, but it vanished from NJ. Now I've located it in NYC. Hehe!!! Love it!!!!

The word "mild" comes to mind for this decent rum, affecting both its taste and scent. Everything seems faint to my less sensitive senses. Its aroma presents honey, caramel, and tropical fruit. The flavors are caramely/toffee oak. It begins with an oily, gentle sweetness in the mouth. Adding a few drops of water helps to enhance the aroma and flavor. This rating is for sipping it neat.

Very sweet, but in a pleasant way. Lacks any spice, just pure caramel & butterscotch candy. Very smooth, easy to drink, & an ideal introductory rum for those unaccustomed to premium rum.

Otis Riley 4.3

A delightful sipping rum with few drawbacks. It might be on the lighter side for those accustomed to more premium, higher proof rums, but for me, it strikes a fine balance of sweetness, flavor, and warmth.

Excellent quality, just like all of Oliver y Oliver's creations. A blend of Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Remarkably smooth with hints of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, toffee, and a touch of cinnamon.

Harrison Phelps 3.8

Nice gold color and a very sweet aroma. It brings honey and butterscotch to mind, and it's sweet on the palate as well. The finish is smooth and lacks heat, which I believe is a great conclusion to this rum.
