3 Amigos Añejo

I detected woody, nutty, and caramel notes. The flavors were well-balanced but lacked depth. It was reasonably smooth, but honestly, it just reminded me of a decent but unexciting single malt scotch. There's an umami mushroom character similar to Corralejo añejo, but less pronounced. The flavor profile is on the mild side, yet it offers a good mix of caramel, vegetal notes, umami, and faint spices without any disagreeable elements. While not particularly memorable, it is well-rounded and balanced, free from any strange or unpleasant tastes. A certain reposado expression is like a combination of this and another brand's reposado. This can't compare to a high-end añejo, but given its cost, that's understandable.

Served neat. The aroma has notes of oak, vanilla, agave, or possibly alcohol. It has a light mouthfeel. The taste begins with sweet agave, pears, herbs, oak, and vanilla, followed by mild alcohol that intensifies after a few sips. The finish is tart with a hint of sweetness and black pepper. Overall, it's balanced, meaning it's not excessively thick or sweet, allowing some spicy and slightly herbal notes to emerge. Additives appear to be minimal. I appreciate the straightforwardness, as most affordable añejos seem heavily modified. It's not my top choice for an añejo, but it's among the best I've tried in the $30 price range so far. I would purchase it again for casual drinking.

Tastes of caramel, wood, pear, agave, and vanilla. The aroma is sharp and citrusy. This is an easy-drinking spirit and smooth on the palate. No unpleasant off-notes are present. The flavor does not linger. For the cost, this is quite good and would be suitable for daily enjoyment.

The scent was pleasant. Vanilla, sweet agave, and citrus. Grapefruit was the initial impression. The taste was somewhat lacking. The alcohol is very noticeable throughout. A significant burn on the finish. However, the vanilla and sweetness persist underneath. A lingering artificial taste.

For the price, I haven't found a better añejo. It's perfect for making añejo Old Fashioneds. I typically reserve the Extra Añejos for sipping since this one is a bit sharp on the finish, but it's still great for an Old Fashioned.
