About this bottle

This genever is crafted from a malt-wine resulting from the triple distillation of equal parts corn, rye, and malted barley. A portion of this is then subjected to a fourth distillation with botanicals, including juniper, licorice, and aniseed. The two resulting components are blended and aged for 5 years in new 200-liter American oak barrels. These are single-barrel offerings, sold at 38% ABV in Europe, particularly in the Netherlands and Germany.

Aroma: rye, a spicy kick, with a bourbon-like quality. Oak and vanilla notes are present. It reminds me of the Redbreast Lustau. There's a faint briny note, perhaps like pickles or gherkins. Mid-palate: initially mellow, then developing a spicy character. Taste: vanilla, cinnamon, honey, and toffee. Aftertaste: a moderate coating, a touch of spice, but generally quite mellow and well-rounded. It drinks more like a very smooth spirit than a gin, with fewer botanicals than anticipated and no dominant juniper flavor.
