Appearance: Resembles homemade lemonade, a cloudy but not entirely opaque white with a faint yellowish hue. Aroma: A vibrant, fresh, and sweet lemon scent, almost effervescent. Taste: Begins with sweet lemon juice that quickly turns lightly sour. There are no metallic, bitter, or astringent qualities; the initial sweetness simply fades. The finish is rather brief, leaving a pleasant but very slightly bitter/sour taste initially, followed by a return of moderate sweetness in the aftertaste. The lemon character is more prominent on the nose than on the palate, where it is subtle and understated. The texture is light and airy, certainly not thick or overpowering. The flavor profile progresses from sweet to sour and back to sweet, which is an interesting and satisfying experience. Founded in 1895 in Zugliano, Veneto, the Zanin company is primarily known for its fine aged grappa but also produces fruit-infused liqueurs. This limoncello is crafted by steeping Sicilian lemon peel in the distillery's own 97% eau-de-vie for 30 days, then diluting it with water, sugar syrup, and lemon juice to achieve a 30% ABV.
