YAMATO TAKEDA SHINGEN EDITION

Received this as a Christmas present from my wife. I must say, the presentation was exceptional! The bottle itself was of superb quality, and the attractive Samurai armor was striking. I was hoping the contents would match my enthusiasm for the exterior, given my appreciation for the culture. Upon opening, I noticed a quite pronounced woody aroma. This initially made me excited. Unfortunately, it was a one-dimensional experience and the intensity couldn't be replicated in subsequent pours. The aroma from the glass offered light oak and vanilla. The flavor had a similar effect, but with undertones of earth and spice. This is where it lost points for me. The finish seemed very brief and lacked character. At times, I did detect the characteristic Japanese grain notes, but it was highly inconsistent. The smoothness did salvage it somewhat. I'm certainly not a Japanese whisky expert, but I have sampled a few others, such as Nikka Coffey and Suntory's premium Hibiki. This doesn't really measure up. That's not to say it should be avoided, just that there's nothing exceptional about it. That said, it's certainly suitable for casual drinking. Or even better, a decent introduction for those new to Japanese whiskies. I appreciate it enough to finish the bottle, but it won't become a regular choice or a must-have.

It smells as though vanilla was forcefully introduced into the spirit. On the palate, the malt whisky was immediately detectable; it does not resemble any Japanese whisky I have encountered, despite having tried several. Vanilla candy is prominent at the start of the palate, with a slightly spicy, faint pepper note that intensely suggests Mizunara Oak! The finish is quite disappointing, almost like drinking a watered-down Vanilla Coke. It vanishes instantly into nothingness. The bottle is cool, but that's its sole positive attribute. I will consume it somehow and use the bottle for display with my other spirits.

Aromatic notes of wood and flowers. Buttery vanilla quickly gives way to a spicy mid-palate. The finish is smooth with a touch of spice. It's balanced but fleeting.

Distinctive but not worth the cost. The flavor isn't great, hard to define but it just tastes slightly off.

Smells like glue and nitrile gloves. Sweet, nutty flavor. Interesting, but not outstanding.

Immediate vanilla butterscotch, smooth, with a touch of spice on the finish.
