About this bottle

Produced in Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu island, the Ohishi Sherry Cask is crafted from rice and matured in both new and previously used sherry casks. Ohishi Distillery utilizes at least 30% gohyakumanishi rice, grown on its own land, supplemented by mochi rice from Kumamoto. This particular bottling comprises a mix of 27-year-old (29%), 10-year-old (35%), and 7-year-old (36%) Ohishi sherry cask whiskies.

Carmelo Estes 4.3

Japanese spirits have always piqued my interest, but I hadn't deeply explored them until recently. After sampling some outstanding bottles from the Hibiki distillery, shared by a friend, I decided it was time. I found this at my local store and decided to try it. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. The aroma was captivating and distinct from the bourbons and whiskeys I've recently encountered. The tasting notes were a pleasure. It featured a nutty essence, which I'd identify as almond. This was followed by the sweet fruitiness from the sherry casks. As time passed, toffee and earthy/herbal flavors emerged. The finish was very smooth and sake-like, leaving me wanting more. I will certainly continue my exploration of this style. I'm looking forward to my next purchase. It's another reason to appreciate Japanese culture. I now enjoy this while watching the excellent show Tokyo Vice.

Alfred Egan 5.0

This hybrid shochu and whisky is very smooth going down. It has berry notes from the sherry influence, along with brown sugar, toffee, chocolate, nuts, raisins, coffee, floral, vanilla, and cinnamon, complemented by a pleasant sake-like earthiness.

Anaya Barajas 5.0

Fantastic blend of sherry-cask rice whiskeys from almost thirty years. Silky butterscotch character. Some might find it overly sweet, but I enjoyed it as a perfect end to the day.

Diamond Rizzo 4.8

An exceptional whisky, distinct from the usual offerings. It possesses a very mellow, velvety texture and a superb mouthfeel. This could rank among the finest Japanese whiskies I've encountered.

I didn't like it until I noticed the almond
