About this bottle

Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition starts with the distillery's standard Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Master distiller Chris Morris finished the bourbon's maturation in French oak ex-cognac XO barrels for three years before bottling. The bourbon is presented at 90.4 proof in a crystal decanter created by Baccarat, a renowned French luxury crystal manufacturer founded in 1764. Limited quantities began appearing in October 2020.

NOSE: Concentrated dried dark fruit, musty-funky-grapey notes akin to rum, brown sugar, toffee, oak, vanilla custard, candied citrus, and hints of baking spice. It would be easy to mistake this for a rum based on the aroma alone; there's such a peculiar funky quality that it immediately brought Foursquare 2013 Habitation Velier to mind. PALATE: Syrupy dark fruit, oak, vanilla custard, candied citrus, herbal spice, chocolate licorice, toasted nuts, and a subtle musty funk. While the nose might deceive some, the palate of the Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition, likely, would not. This presents a dark, slightly funky, fruity bourbon character. FINISH: Medium-long -> Dried dark fruit, oak, cocoa, copper, and char fade away in a dry fashion, leaving a chalky sensation.

Experienced this in May, a very nice cognac influence without overwhelming the Woodford flavor. Aroma: Vanilla, white chocolate, caramel, cherries, flowers, white grapes, cinnamon, almonds, citrus, banana, coconut, pineapple, orange, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, sultanas, plums, violets, peach, walnuts, cashews Palate: Corn, flowers, cotton candy, white grapes, nutmeg, vanilla, almonds, peach, pepper, pepper, cinnamon, marzipan, walnuts Finish: Vanilla, banana, white chocolate, sultanas, almond pastry, flowers, coconut, toffee, walnuts, white grapes, rancio.

Tasted during my tour at Woodford Distillery. Didn't have time for a full review, but how often do you get to taste a $2000 bottle of bourbon? Definitely had the cognac notes throughout. Enjoyable experience.

Elsa Katz 3.5

Reminiscent of the Sonoma-Cutrer wine cask finish in the Master's Collection from 2007. Not worth the price for the spirit, but the Baccarat Crystal decanter is stunning and worth a lot.

Cleveland Parr 3.5

Subtle. The aroma is rich with cognac and oak. It's somewhat sweet with mild tannins, featuring notes of wood and vanilla. Pears and bananas are present, leading to a mushy banana finish.

A $2,200 bottle. I wasn't expecting that. Truly great bourbon during the tour, but I would definitely not pay that price.
