Wolfhound Irish Whiskey

Nose: Fruity, mostly citrus. Some caramel. Shortbread cookies. The ethanol smell is very strong. Palate: Grassy and grainy. Very simple with not much coming through. Some lemon notes that don't help. Finish: Short to medium. Alcohol burn on the way down. Sour aftertaste, but not completely off-putting. Overall Thoughts: Definitely happy I only got the $1.99 sample bottle. It's very much a budget whiskey and best suited for mixers. The packaging suggests it's a gentle giant, but I found it a bit too potent. The aroma initially seems sweet, but after it breathes a bit, it just smells like hand sanitizer.

This is a pleasant, affordable Irish whiskey with its characteristic smoky peat. It's also quite delicate. While other whiskies in this price range might be better for Irish Whiskey aficionados, it would be a great introductory choice for someone new to Irish Whiskey, due to its mild flavor, attractive traditional bottle shape, elegant gold label, and charming dog illustration.

Given it's March and I'm trying different Irish whiskeys, I picked this bottle. It has a semi-sweet aroma starting with butter, clove, and fruit. I detect apple, banana, and soft peach scents. The sweetness continues in the taste, like a mouthful of marmalade. A strong alcohol hit overshadows the smoke and mild heat. I feel it would be improved as a mixer or with more aging.

Smells like vanilla. Some oak. Flavors initially go in that direction, then the alcohol hits hard. It remains throughout the short finish, leaving a slightly woody and plastic aftertaste, along with lingering hints of the initial vanilla and some apple.

Don't pay attention to the whiskey snobs; this is fantastic. It's my top Irish whiskey. It has just the right amount of kick but is smooth, as an Irish whiskey should be. It's good for sipping and for making Irish coffees. Plus, it has the coolest name for any whiskey I know.

No issues with this one. It's a good mixer for drinks that complement Irish whiskey. I tried a small amount neat, and it's certainly not a sipper, but otherwise, it's pleasant and sweet, almost creamy when mixed.
