West Cork Bourbon Cask

This whiskey has a golden color and an oily texture. The nose is sharply grainy but also sweet, with honey, oak spice, and some fruit, mainly apples. The taste is very young, sharp, grainy, and spicy upfront, but sweet. It quickly turns to an effervescent, oilier, drier woody taste, with honey and orchard fruit like apples and pears. The finish is short to medium, pleasant, dry, and woody, with a faint aroma of dried fruit. Overall, I don't favor the sharp grainy taste, preferring richer malt flavors. However, considering the low price, it was quite decent and drinkable. I wouldn't buy a full bottle, as there are better Irish whiskeys available at a similar price point.

The aroma is shortbread, but an alcohol fume heavier than anticipated overshadows it. The taste is more of that buttery shortbread, with some apple syrup and dark stone fruits. With a bit of water, that apple pie syrup truly comes alive. The added water releases cask tannins that make the middle of the tongue pucker. The texture feels slick and buttery. The finish has cask tannins, apple pie syrup, stone fruits, and spicy citrus rind. This Irish whiskey is beautifully easy to drink: very approachable and pleasant. It's not overly sweet because the pucker prevents any excessive sweetness that might have unbalanced it. An excellent value.

A decent budget Irish option, good for its low cost. The bourbon influence is noticeable with upfront vanilla and an oaky, somewhat bitter finish. There seem to be some faint vegetal and biscuit notes present. It's generally light and very drinkable.

Aroma of dried fruit and caramel dominates the nose. Some spice. Even hints of floral and vanilla. Tastes fruity with honey. Notes of malt, vanilla, and citrus. A medium finish with grain, caramel, spice, and dried fruit.

A burning sensation with smoky notes, plums, chocolate, and cherries. Bourbon characteristics are subtly present in the aftertaste. Overall, the flavor is harsh, and it feels like 45% ABV rather than the stated 40%.

Sweet caramel, vanilla, and honey on the nose. Vanilla, honey, heather, and graham cracker on the palate. The finish has mild baking spices and a hint of warmth. A very good blended Irish whiskey.
