About this bottle

Master distiller Anna María Romero Mena oversaw the production of this tequila, which exclusively uses agave from the Tequila Valley (Lowlands). It is a blend of añejo tequila, aged in former whisky casks, and extra añejo tequila, aged in former cognac barrels. Both components are separated after aging, and their color is removed. Prior to blending, the añejo and extra añejo tequilas undergo a cask wash in their respective aging barrels. This additive-free tequila, meaning "land of the volcano," is a collaborative effort between Moët Hennessy and the Gallardo family, launched in select US markets in May 2017.

Volcan Cristalino offers a distinctive fusion of añejo and extra añejo, masterfully filtered to retain minimal color. The aroma reveals fruity strawberry hints, vanilla, black cherries, oak, and roasted agave. The palate presents a robust foundation of roasted agave, chocolate, black cherries, and oak. The texture is exceptionally smooth and velvety, allowing the tequila to be savored on the tongue, revealing its subtlest nuances.

While the method of "let's create an Anejo and then filter it to look like a blanco" confuses me, I did appreciate this one. It's certainly lighter in body than a typical Anejo, which is likely to be expected given the style. A decent sipper, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to have another.

Daren Huynh 4.8

This tequila is remarkable. Incredibly smooth with hints of smoke and sweetness. I strongly suggest it for those new to tequila. Definitely worth the expense.

Marquis Pedersen 2.0

This tequila isn't living up to the buzz. It strikes me as excessively sweet, with a flavor reminiscent of artificial sweeteners. Quite let down by this buy.

Lupe Rojo 5.0

Unique. Quite delightful. Notes of spice, cactus, dulce de leche, orchard fruit, and sweet cream.

Richard Barger 4.0

Delicious. Offers citrus mingled with vanilla on both the aroma and palate. Smooth!
