Albert Oleary 1.5

I suspect the lack of reviews for this product might be due to Advocaat's limited popularity in the US, though it seems to have a stronger following in Europe. Regardless, I question the appeal of drinking this neat, but I tried it anyway and can only advise sticking to cocktails. The aroma is unremarkable, with a hint of egg that doesn't quite seem fresh, alongside ethanol. The palate is even less impressive, beginning very creamy and smooth before rapidly devolving into artificial, industrial ethanol. The finish leaves an unpleasant, cheap metallic sensation. If judged solely on its neat consumption, this would rate a 1 or lower. However, it does perform adequately in cocktails, lending a pleasant creamy and smooth texture to several mixed drinks I experimented with. I would caution, though, that if it's the primary component, something else is needed to balance it. As a supporting element or when paired with another spirit, it functions quite well. I wouldn't actively seek it out, but that's the sole reason for my 1.5 rating.

Ida Wharton 1.0

A cream liqueur from Germany, made with fresh egg yolks, high-class distillates (brandy), sugar, and other high-quality ingredients. 1.3 million fresh Class A eggs are used daily in production. It had a delicate birth, while an egg yolk life led to a thick & chunky death of medium length with a touch of egg batter. October / November / December 2024
