Tres Generaciones Reposado Tequila

When I first started exploring tequilas a while back, Tres Generaciones Anejo was among the initial ones I sampled and reviewed, and it was quite good. A friend of mine then brought over a bottle of their Reposado for us to try, and I was eager to sample it... The aroma is dominated by agave but isn't overwhelming. A hint of tangerine peel offers a slightly astringent citrus note. There's a touch of sharp alcohol, which I don't recall from the Anejo's aroma. Some black pepper adds a spicy depth to the scent, subtly tickling the inside of your nose. The initial taste is agave and caramel. However, that rich sweetness quickly gives way to citrus, tannic oak, and tongue-tingling black peppercorn. There's a bit of dry hay that hits with something a bit sharp and potent. Is it too obvious to mention alcohol? After all, it was quite noticeable in the aroma. The finish is full of spicy and tannic flavors. The tongue-tingling black peppercorn softens but remains prominent in the finish. Inhaling through your mouth reveals that familiar herbaceous agave taste, cut grass, and more of that dry hay. It leaves a slightly medicinal bitterness at the back of your throat. The diverse world of tequila is perplexing. While this Reposado isn't terrible and is actually quite enjoyable, Corralejo is significantly better for half the price. This Reposado is intricate but I feel it distinctly lacks sweetness and presents flavors that are a bit too sharp for a quality Reposado.

Neat. It's clear with a straw hue. The aroma has alcohol, some oak, vanilla, black pepper, a touch herbal, raw agave, and minerals. The taste is somewhat harsh, dominated by black pepper, alcohol, a little raw agave, pear, vanilla, oak, caramel, and baking spices. The finish is simple, dry, bitter, with black pepper, some artificial sweetness, and very faint vanilla/caramel. Not a tequila for sipping unless you enjoy overpowering black pepper. It's too pricey for mixing. You can find better options for half the cost.

Very similar in taste to a favorite tequila of mine, Siete Leguas. I found the flavor profile to be more fruity than the distiller's chart suggested, with earthy notes and a touch of cinnamon and mango that concluded very smoothly. It's deceptive because it doesn't burn, making it incredibly easy to drink despite its alcohol content. It easily ranks in my top 10.

This tequila was moderately smooth and easier to drink than the silver version. I'm eager to try an Añejo tequila. No mixer is required for this one.

The aroma has vanilla, caramel, agave, and grass. The taste is sweet with vanilla, wood, and spicy notes. A very solid option for mass-produced tequila.

Features a smoky char character, complemented by spice and earth notes. Smooth. This is enjoyable.
