Siete Leguas Añejo Tequila

The aroma is not very pronounced but it does carry a sense of richness with sweet dark fruits. The taste differs quite a bit from the aroma. Some dark cherry is present, but the flavor is primarily minty with a sharp rather than lingering bitterness. The body is light and drying. There is a lengthy spicy burn. A larger sip reveals more toffee and toasted marshmallows, along with additional tropical fruit notes (specifically, green pineapple). The sweetness is effective as it is present but rather than being overpowering, it allows other flavors to take prominence. The alcoholic bitterness is noticeable but managed. Vanilla is present in a pleasing quantity. While the flavor profile could be improved, this is certainly drinkable.

Consumed neat. Light straw color with slow-moving legs. The aroma is vibrant with some ethanol. Agave fruitiness is dominant, complemented by citrus, herbal, vegetal notes, oak, and minerals. Hints of butterscotch, nuts, and honey are subtle, offering background exploration rather than being overtly forward. The flavor profile features brighter agave fruitiness with anise, mint, brine, oak, vanilla, warm cinnamon and allspice, light caramel/butterscotch, and nuts. The finish is somewhat slick, sweet, with cinnamon, and light oak tannins. Perhaps leaning towards the younger end for an añejo, but I truly appreciate its continued agave-forward nature, with the oak aging notes playing a harmonious supporting role rather than dominating. Numerous flavors are present to discover. It's definitely a rewarding spirit to relax and sip. An excellent value considering the quality.

Siete Leguas añejo earns a perfect score because the agave is its foundational element. Typically, añejo tequilas become dominated by oak and complexities that obscure the agave. On the nose, we perceive aromas of roasted agave, grapefruit, honey, vanilla, and cinnamon. The flavors echo this, with a strong presence of roasted agave, oak, and citrus notes like grapefruit, which lean more tart than sweet, alongside vanilla. For those who appreciate tradition, the deference to agave flavors makes Siete Leguas añejo a top selection.

Aroma of brown sugar, blackberry, custard. Sweet, but not overpowering, flavors. On the palate, you're immediately greeted with caramel and oak, a hint of mint, and some smoother flavors. A substantial mouthfeel. The finish was unremarkable, slightly bitter, with some pine, not much else stood out. Quite decent, and worth having on hand if it costs under $60.

It's alright, it gave me a headache after a couple of sips. I'd give this to people who don't appreciate tequila. I don't think it aged enough for my preference. The color is somewhere between blanco and reposado. I'm not finishing this.
