About this bottle

This whiskey is one of three in Traverse City Whiskey Co.'s 'Finishing Series,' each featuring a different TCWC whiskey with a unique barrel finish lasting up to 12 months. The Cab Franc Finish begins with a five-year-old 100% straight rye whiskey, then undergoes a nearly 12-month finish in former cabernet franc wine barrels from a Michigan winery. The other two offerings are a Port Barrel Finish Bourbon and a Sherry Barrel Finish High-Rye Bourbon. These three whiskeys have been available at TCWC's tasting rooms and online since March 2023. (SRP $59.99)

Alfonso Mayo 4.0

The aroma strongly suggests wine, with notes of berries, grapes, and sweet fruit juice. The taste mirrors these flavors and offers little else, specifically dark berry. The finish has just a hint of oak and a pleasant tartness. It's a fruit-forward spirit. While not much else stands out, that's perfectly acceptable. This is a versatile bottle for many events and is very easy to drink. It lacks notable complexity, but it's an interesting experiment the distillery pursued.

Demetria Menard 5.0

The aroma has abundant caramel, brown sugar, and toasted marshmallow. However, the taste is truly outstanding, featuring a flawless fusion of spicy rye and moody Cabernet Franc. The texture is light yet fills the mouth, with the intense spice of dark rye toast. The finale provides a very dry, bittersweet cocoa conclusion. A genuine whiskey treasure.

Ayla Burnett 3.8

The taste is similar to the aroma, reminiscent of wine...
