About this bottle

The Balvenie Tun 1509 is a limited edition series featuring single malts chosen and combined by malt master David Stewart. These whiskies then undergo further maturation in a large vat, known as Tun 1509, located in the distillery's Warehouse 24. For Batch 7, Stewart combined 21 "rare and precious casks" for three months within the Tun. These casks contained single malt aged in three distinct barrel types: refill sherry hogsheads, ex-bourbon American oak, and Doublewood refill sherry butts (which were used for Doublewood's finish before being refilled and aged). This expression is bottled at 52.4% ABV and is not chill-filtered. It has been available in the US since October 2020.

Aroma: Sherry, citrus leading with a rye-like spice. Sweet vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, a bit of brown sugar, and subtle oak. The sherry, perhaps even chardonnay, and zesty citrus are more prominent, followed by a familiar spicy, almost rye-like, kick. Taste: Peppery spice with sweet, slightly bitter, oak. Zesty citrus, with sweet vanilla and baking spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of ginger. The finish is pleasing. Final Thoughts: This is a very good pour. Tasted alongside Batch 3 and Batch 4. I prefer Batch 3, followed by Batch 4, but Batch 7 is close behind.
