Tipperary Knockmealdowns 10 Year

Day Five of my Irish Whiskey Advent Calendar from Drinks By The Dram brings me this exciting single malt. The aroma rushes in with green apple, fruit soup from Norway (at least, the version made by the little old church lady at my current job's interpretation of it), and a faint trace of something a bit smoky. The taste is a real powerhouse; it begins fruity (reminds me of charoset - apple, raisin, nuts, cinnamon), but then a strong note of barrel char arrives (almost burning rubber, but in an appealing way), savory (mushroom-like) malt, and a powerfully spicy conclusion reminiscent of a cinnamon candy like Red Hots. A layered, very pleasing drop of whiskey!

Nose: Citrus. A hint of vanilla. Flavor: Starts gently and then builds. A bit of spice. Finish: A rather long finish.

The aroma presents as newly seasoned wood. The palate offers honey and lemon notes, concluding with a spicy, savory character. Oak and ginger persist on the finish.
