The Real McCoy 12 Year Rum

This is a rum for bourbon fans. A quirky way to put it, meaning if bourbon is your thing, you'll probably enjoy this. It clearly tastes like rum, yet the texture, the woody sweetness, and even the hue bring to mind a good, unadulterated bourbon. The twelve years in bourbon casks undoubtedly contributed. Actually, forget 'contributed.' It has truly shaped it. Or perhaps 'made it this way.' Or if those linguistic choices are too crude for your palate, invent your own phrasing – honestly, just leave me be. I've been swamped lately by these hecklers who shadow my every word, finding fault with my writing.

To me, it has minimal scent of funk and bourbon, alongside nail polish if I must mention it. The flavor is bourbon and dry oak leaves on the finish. Strange, I know, but that's what came to mind. When sipped quickly, it has a smoothness on the tongue, and the pepper intensifies after swallowing. This was a letdown, as I had higher expectations for an aged spirit. It doesn't even taste good in soda. The rating is based on neat sipping.

Fruit and vanilla on the nose, oak and petroleum on the tongue. A good swirl in the mouth brings back the vanilla and fruit with a hint of caramel. As it goes down, the petrol reappears, accompanied by a warmth. Nothing extreme, and all fairly pleasant, though perhaps not as smooth or satisfying as the three-year-old version.

Aromas of overripe pineapple, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, and baking spices. Some woody notes appear later in the pour. The initial taste begins with a blast of molasses, then transitions to caramel and spice in the middle. A moderate lessening of flavor over time, finally yielding to a pleasant vanilla finish.

this is good, likely the driest rum I've ever had, but I do not plan to spend $50+ on a bottle again. perhaps closer to $39 if I found it. also the description here claims no coloring added but the label on my bottle indicates it contains added caramel coloring, so. interpret that as you wish I suppose

Aromas on the nose - slightly medicinal yet sweet, with bitter dark chocolate & wood polish and charcoal. Upon first taste, the mouthfeel is like sour espresso, cocoa, wood, and vanilla. The finish leaves the mouth dry and slightly bitter on the tongue, yet a mellow burn in the throat.
