About this bottle

In tribute to Macallan’s fifth characteristic, Reflexion highlights the spirit’s rich mahogany hue, derived solely from first-fill hogshead barrels. The interaction between the liquid and wood is intensified due to the limited size of these 200-liter casks, which offer an increased surface area. The vessel for Reflexion is a decanter crafted to capture and refract light, emphasizing the whisky's inherent visual appeal.

Nose - Dark dried stone fruits, treacle toffee, caramel, caramelized bananas, dark chocolate Taste - Intense dried dark stone fruits, hint of banana sweet, caramel, raisins, chocolate, orange/citrusy refreshing notes Finish - Lingering gentle sweet ginger heat, cocoa, raisins, toasted sugar Score - 96/100 Final Thoughts - I truly dislike rating something like this so highly, but it genuinely warrants it. This is a superbly crafted sherried Scotch that delivers such a flavor punch & balance that you wouldn't believe it's only 43%. The nose is intense & has that "vintage Scotch" character. A superb balance between rich flavors & citrusy notes prevents it from being overly sweet. I suspect if I had a bottle, it would vanish quickly because it's just so delicious & easy to drink. The flavors are complex & everything is exceptionally well-balanced. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - Yes Would I buy a bottle? - Perhaps, if I had significant disposable income NOTE - All reviews are completed without considering the price.

Had the chance to try a small amount of this exceptional spirit at a promotional event. The aroma is an intoxicating blast of sweet, fruity sherry, which contrasts with its less sweet taste. The palate is exceptionally rich and refined, with a thick, oily texture and a slight tartness. Dominant notes of Oloroso sherry are present, with dry raisins, prune, and dates forming the core profile. Additionally, there are hints of wood, along with some orange and lemon. The finish was unfortunately brief, possibly due to the tiny serving size (around 1/3-1/2 a dram). Compared to the Rare Cask, this whisky sacrifices sweetness for richness, and if I had to choose, I'd likely opt for the Rare Cask. However, if Macallan were to produce a scented candle in this scent, I'd buy a whole shipping container full.

Santiago, Chile, the Ritz Carlton, wow, this is an incredibly expensive pour I'm enjoying, wondering if the company will cover it when I submit my expense report, but who cares, it's past midnight, and after tasting the 18, Rare Cask, and 21-year-old, I'm ready for this divine nectar! There's no point in describing the taste because it's a sensory delight, an orgasm for the palate and mind. This has been a fantastic evening, and I feel the need to get lost in oblivion. There's no turning back now.

While not justifying its $1K+ cost, it is brilliant nonetheless. Nose: Raisins, sultanas, licorice twists, honey, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, cranberries, fruitcake, orange zest, mocha, pineapples, blackberries, grapefruit peel. Palate: Raisins, toffee, honey, milk chocolate, oranges, stewed red apples, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, apricots, coconuts, figs. Finish: Raisins, stewed red apples, cinnamon, peaches, apricots, prunes, figs, dates, pineapples.

The nose is beautifully aromatic, revealing notes of stone fruit, dried figs, cooked pears, and aged oak. The palate is full-bodied, fruity, and creamy, with a delightful combination of vanilla-yogurt-covered raisins and baking spices. The finish is long, with a spicy and slightly citrusy aftertaste. In summary, this whisky is delicious, elegant, and nearly flawless. Arguably one of the finest whiskies I've ever had.

That's truly magical! Considering the price, it's a solid four stars because it's not worth $1600 CAD. Sherry on the nose and almost like a vermouth wine, with a velvety texture on the palate. The palate isn't woody, but it has wood spices and ginger. A pleasant bitterness on the finish with a hint of orange rind and oak appearing 30 seconds later. Incredibly complex and fantastic!
