The Duppy Share Rum

Nose: Pine needles, crushed sugar cane (reminiscent of fresh-cut grass), a hint of white pepper and menthol, cinnamon, nutmeg, oak wood, leather, dried fruit. Over time, as the alcohol evaporates, a light aroma of tobacco emerges. Palate: A semi-sweet arrival with herbal and fruity notes, mild spices, plantain, apricot, and dried dates. A variety of gentle baking spices appear during development, and the texture is creamy, buttery, and very satisfying without being overly sweet. Impressive. Finish: Medium: Spiced fruitcake leading into a dry aftertaste. Very Good. Duppy Share is an English rum brand recently introduced to the Australian market. It's commonly found in UK supermarkets, but don't let that suggest it's a cheap, low-quality spirit. They currently offer four expressions, all sourced from Jamaican and/or Bajan distilleries, notably Worthy Park and Foursquare. This “Aged Caribbean Rum” was their initial offering and is a very pleasant, lightly aged gold rum. It contains no added sugar and is vastly different from the heavy, syrupy character of Diplomatico or Zacapa. There's a subtle pot-still funk from Worthy Park present, but it's light and airy, likely from the column still distillate from Foursquare. Similar to the Duppy White I just reviewed, this is easily enjoyed neat or on ice, and it performs exceptionally well in cocktails and long drinks. Does it rival well-regarded Foursquare rums like Doorly’s 12 or Worthy Park 100% pot-distilled expressions? No, but it comes quite close, and I'm rating it just one point below Doorly’s 12. Considering its very reasonable price, it's a bargain and a solid recommendation. We will definitely keep this one in our regular rotation. “Good”: 84/100 (3.75 stars)
