About this bottle

Founders Troy Turner and Mark Simon established Tatoosh Distillery in Seattle, Washington, in 2009. Their inspiration came from great-grandfathers with connections to whiskey: one was a Prohibition-era moonshiner, and the other sold liquor west of the Mississippi. The distillery focuses on craft spirits using ingredients from the Pacific Northwest. Tatoosh Rye, with a mash bill of approximately 70% rye and 30% corn, is made from local rye. Following mashing and fermentation, it is processed through copper pot stills and matured for an unspecified duration in new American oak barrels that have been charred to a #4 level. The spirit is bottled at 43% ABV.

Yes, it tastes like rye. Very mineral-forward. It also has a pleasant tart rye quality that makes it somewhat refreshing. There's some spice, but not excessive. It's not overly sweet. Floral notes are definitely present, along with some nice fruit on the finish. It's fairly standard, making it a good mixer. The more I drink it, though, the less I enjoy sipping it. Honestly, it's mostly mineral and a bit of spice with not much else. That sweet, caramel apple note is quite nice, but the rest isn't great. I'd rather not sip this.

A pleasant Rye that offers a good taste. It is not as refined as some other options, yet I still appreciate it.
